1955 FJ Holden

Engine 2.2 - 6 Cylinder
Rego SFJ 215
Introduced in 1953, the FJ Holden was produced in Sedan, Coupe Utility and Panelvan body styles. Sedan options included the Special, Business Sedan and Standard Sedan. The Standard Sedan accounted for 28,000 or one sixth of all FJ Holden produced between 1953 and 1956. Being the basic model the Standard, code named FJ 215, came with no frills and minimum chrome. However, the mechanicals and body design were identical to that of the Special (FJ 225) and the Business Sedan (FJ 217). The FJ Standard Sedan is now relatively rare and the vehicle on offer presents as it did in 1955 at the Holden dealership. Fully restored over a period of three-years, the FJ looks splendid in its Surf Green duco and matching interior. The brief was to retain as many of its original parts as possible and replicate its condition when it left the production line. This included not fitting any accessories or optional extras other than a driver’s side rear view mirror. Indicators, seat belts and radial tyres have been fitted for safety sake. Purchased as a retirement project by the current owner in 1988, the FJ was carefully dry stored until being completely stripped for restoration in 2017. All parts were inspected and meticulously cleaned, repaired and refinished prior to assembly. The parts that didn’t measure up to scrutiny were discarded in favour of new old stock, restored or reproduction parts. All major work was undertaken professionally including mechanicals, braking system, upholstery, bodywork, paint refinishing and chrome work. The engine was fully reconditioned but due to its low mileage still retains its standard bore size. The gearbox which had also covered only 70,000 miles was found to be excellent condition and required minimal attention.
