This is the car that launched the legend. The 1966 Dodge Charger is the first year for the now iconic name. As stated in the technical service bulletin  "The 66 Charger is a distinctive fastback 2-door hardtop. Its a specialty car combining sports car styling with luxury appointments.  The newest addition to the Dodge line of fine cars is easily identified by its graceful roof line and its uniquely contoured rear window glass " " The Charger is 203.6 inches long and is built on a 117.0 inch wheelbase. Standard engine is the 318 cubic inch V-8 , but the full range of engine options are available " In the mid 60's the craze for Fastbacks was at an all time high. The Ford Mustang was the selling more cars than every other manufacture, so this was an attempt by Dodge to get a piece of the action. Unfortunately the Mustang sold nearly double the amount of cars but you still have to appreciate the efforts made by Dodge. Even their advertising logo didn't help " I bought a Charger  cause it was larger " This 66 model we have on offer is a very genuine car and comes with a huge file dating back some 20 Yrs . Invoices confirm that at some time the car was restored with approx $14,000 US dollars spent.  The current owner bought the car out of the US in approx 2012 for $16k US and then over the past 8 Yrs spent a further $6k on general items. ( Note the car is currently insured with our friends at Shannons for $50,000 )  Registered here in SA - LHD it also has all the appropriate import paperwork. Rarely seen for sale and especially in this condition . We are delighted that the owner choose Collectable Classic Cars to represent such a stunning example.   Contact Ben Finnis for more details - 0411 744 190 Back
