Just arrived - This 1952 Austin A40 Somerset is proof that good things come in small packages. The A40 Somerset was introduced in 1952 as an upgrade to its predecessor, the A40 Devon. It was mildly restyled, receiving a much sleeker design, and the engine updated. Running a 1.2L 'B Series' 4-cylinder motor, the new A40 now produced 42hp and could reach a top speed of 110km/h (wow!). This was paired to a 4-speed manual with synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. 173,000 A40 Somersets rolled off the line in its two years in production and it sold quite well, though they are becoming increasingly rare. This A40 is a wonderful example, having been well-maintained and loved over a long-term ownership of 21 years. Lots of money has been spent over the last year, with the motor being rebuilt by Riverland Auto, clutch plate replaced, new brake linings, cylinder rubbers and wheel bearings, totalling over $11,000. An older restoration, the fawn paint is in good condition while the interior remains completely original other than the new carpets. This A40 is definitely a testament to its owners. The A40 comes with a file of receipts and a number of manuals including a very hard-to-find service manual. This car is a fantastic entry-level classic car with incredible value for money.
