Just arrived - This 1973 Volkswagen Type 182 is a unique and rare vehicle, perfect for those who like to stand out from the rest. Also known as 'The Thing', the Type 182 VW was developed for the West German Army and sold as a civilian vehicle from 1971 to 1983. Built upon a Karmann Ghia floor pan, the Type 182 shares it mechanicals with the Beetle. Ideal for beach trips or life at the holiday house, the Type 182 has some interesting features, like a windshield that folds flat, a convertible roof, and all four removable and interchangeable. Driven by a 1800cc twin port 4-cylinder motor, the Type 182 is paired with a 4-speed gearbox. True to its military beginnings, the Type 182 is very minimal in design, both inside and out. The interior features lots of sheet metal and a nice set of bucket seats, as well as a bench seat in the rear. There is plenty of room for storage in the boot, as well as a storage space behind the rear seat. This particular vehicle was originally from Indonesia and imported to Australia in 2001. The car was then restored, including new panels with rust removed, repainting in Slate Grey, new black seats and seat belts, new vinyl flooring and carpet in the boot. The car has also been fitted with an electronic ignition, a high-output alternator, twin Magnaflow high-performance extractors, and a B&M quickshift with reverse lockout conversion. The Type 182 has won several trophies whilst on display at events, and is registered here in SA under historic registration. It comes with a small file of information and receipts, and can come with the rights to the custom 'THING1' plates if it stays in SA. This is a very unique and interesting vehicle that certainly gets attention anywhere it goes. In the Type 182, you are sure to stand out from the crowd. Contact Ben Finnis - 0411 744 190.
