4 Seater Tourer - Engine number QK1682. Owned and restored by Edward Nixon
The Rover Company employed Owen Clegg to design a simple, practical and up-to-date car from 1910. His 12hp and 18hp cars, first introduced in 1911, were immediate and spectacular successes. Many were sold in Australia and more than a dozen of the ‘Home’ models survive today.
This car however, is a rare ‘Colonial’ model made only for the 1913 season. There are thought to be around three left in the world. This vehicle, another in the UK and bits of one in New Zealand. They differ from the ‘Home’ models in the front and rear axles along with the size of the wheels. This was to combat the colonial conditions giving the car more ground clearance.
The restoration has been on and off over the past 35 years. Edward has had the motor professionally reconditioned, the interior stylishly fitted and finished and the hood work also completed professionally.
